Getting to Victoria by Air
Victoria International Airport - YYJ

Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is located 25.9 km to the North of Victoria close to the Sidney by the sea. Airlines that operate from and to the airport: Air Canada, Horizon Air (Alaska Airlines), Island Express Air, Pacific Coastal, United, WestJet Airlines.

There are Coach, Limousine and Taxi services to bring people into the City of Victoria, and the airporter shuttle service drops off at most of the larger hotels in Victoria.

Getting to Victoria by Road 

There are two main highways on Vancouver Island that service the route between Nanaimo - Victoria and Sidney - Victoria. These two highways serve to bring road traffic to the Victoria downtown core from the main ferry and airport routes.
malahat driveFrom further up the island Highway 4 from Port Alberni and Tofino and Highway 19 from Port Hardy connect to join the Trans-Canada Highway No1 South. En-route to Victoria from Nanaimo there are several places of interest to stop off at to break your journey, including observation points for viewing the island and perfect photographic opportunities.

Places of interest include; Ladysmith which is the site of the crossing of the 49th parallel. Chemainus the city of Murals. Mill Bay where you can take a ferry ride across to Brentwood Bay to Butchart Gardens.

Crofton is where you can catch a ferry to Saltspring Island. Duncan is the home of Canada's largest hockey stick!

The Malahat Drive section of Highway 1 has several observations points for viewing the Gulf Islands, the B.C. Mainland and Mount Baker in Washington State. Pass through Goldstream and stop off to watch the annual Salmon run and finally into Victoria.

Getting to Victoria by Ferry, Private Craft or Cruise Ship
There are several ferry services that operate between the B.C. Mainland and the United States of America. Daily services operate all year round although some routes are cut back on the number of daily sailings in the winter months.

If you are arriving by private craft then you need to be aware of the inner harbour rules and regulations. The Inner Harbour of Victoria is actually classified as an 'airport' and sailing into the harbour can present hidden dangers to some unsuspecting visitors.

All craft must abide by the Rules and Regulations as laid out by the Harbour Master and the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority. Berthage has to be prepaid prior to arrival. A marine fuel station is available.

ALL visitors from non-Canadian destinations are to report to customs. The Canada Customs office is located at the corner of Government Street and Wharf Street in the Customs Building.

Bus Services
bc transit but BC Transit service operates seven days a week, 365 days a year. The service area includes Greater Victoria, Sidney and Sooke. This service can be used to visit many of the attractions located within the local area and is a really cost effective way to see the city. Regular routes operate to most of the major tourist spots including Craigdarroch Castle, Sooke Potholes, Butchart Gardens and many more locations. There is also a Taxi Saver option; The Taxi Saver Program provides a 50% subsidy towards the cost of taxi rides. Coupons are sold in sheets containing $1, $2 and $5 taxi saver coupons.
