Vancouver is a great city if you're a sports minded kind of person, whether it be as a spectator or an active participant. From watching world class auto racing to windsurfing you can do it. For the active participant skiing, sailing, windsurfing, golfing, hiking, fishing, cycling, jogging, and kayaking are all possible without even leaving the Greater Vancouver area.

Ocean Activities:

windsurfingIf the ocean is you're thing then you have arrived at one of the worlds premier hotspots for many ocean based activities. Sailing and Fishing feature highly in Vancouver activities list, people come from all over the world to participate in the abundance of watersport activities here. Windsurfing offers an excellent way to view the city from the water. You can go to one of the cities beaches, such as Jericho Beach, to receive lessons, rent equipment or put your own board in the water and sail away. It really goes without saying that Fishing figures highly on the list of things to do for many visitors to Vancouver and Greater Vancouver. The waters around Vancouver offer some of the best fishing in the world, and there are many locations to charter a fishing trip, or launch your own boat from one of the many launch points dotted around the Vancouver and Greater Vancouver Area.

Hiking, Jogging and Cycling Activities:

mountain bikingCycling around Vancouver gives you a unique opportunity to see the city at your own pace you can select rides that suit your riding style. Also there are Local Mountain Bike Trails, The North Shore may be the best mountain bike area in the world. There are three major mountain bike areas on the North Shore: Cypress Mountain, Mt Seymour. For a long time the mountain bike trails were kept a secret from outsiders. However, you can now purchase route maps at local mountain bike shops. Jogging around the city is well catered too! with many parks and trails tha support casual jogging to serious trails. Vancouver also offers some of the best maintained trails in North America, with National and Provincial Parks that are as diverse as the landscape.

Golfing Activities:

If you're one of those people that can't stand going more then a few days without a round of golf or you just enjoy the occasional round then the Vancouver area offers courses of all types and sizes. Rentals, lessons and facilities for after the round are available at just about every location.

Winter Activities:

skiingOne of the most popular outdoor winter activities is down hill skiing. The region known as Vancouver, Coast and Mountains features numerous first class alpine ski resorts including Grouse Mouintain, Mt Seymour and Cypress Mountain all have day and night skiing. All of the major venues offer spectacular views of the city and are within a half hour drive of downtown Vancouver. The cross-country trails are excellent at Mt Seymour and Cypress Bowl and if someone in the family needs lessons then top notch schools are available. A little further distance is Whistler-Blackcomb the number one destination in North America for skiing.

Vancouver Sports
For the spectator there's always an event to take in. NHL Hockey fans can catch a Vancouver Canucks game and see Alberto Luongo in action. The BC Lions represent the city in the Canadian Football League and won the Grey Cup in 2007. Soccer fans can check out the Vancouver Whitecaps.
